Three (3) year fixed-term contract, Part-time 0.6 FTE
Annual salary starting at $85,323.45 (pro rata) + 12% Superannuation
The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is an inner eastern metropolitan Council, nestled on the outskirts of the CBD. The area enjoys a reputation as one of Adelaide’s most desirable places to live, work, study and visit.
The City has a rich heritage fabric which is balanced with medium and high-density residential growth. There is high demand for residential infill and commercial development, together with strong demand and vibrancy along some of the City’s premier retail strips.
An exciting opportunity has presented itself for a part-time Planning Officer to join our Development Assessment Team and contribute towards shaping our vibrant City through the timely and accurate assessment and enforcement of a range of Development Applications.
The Role
Reporting to the Team Leader, Development and under their general direction and supervision, the Planning Officer is responsible for assisting in the delivery of an efficient and effective assessment process.
You will provide ongoing general support to the Manager, Development & Regulatory Services, Assessment Manager, Urban Planners and other members of the team by undertaking assigned tasks as well as carrying out other key responsibilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Undertaking planning assessments of minor development applications.
- Verifying and processing received development applications.
- Providing customer service, including answering queries and providing preliminary advice to citizens.
- Reviewing and preparing all statutory documentation and correspondence pertaining to Development Approvals.
- Attending Council Assessment Panel meetings.
- Managing corporate records, preparing correspondence, inputting data entry, and reporting and maintaining registers and databases.
About You
You are a proactive and confident team player who can effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders and is eager to learn and support a wider team. You have a can-do attitude and enjoy working with people using a customer-focused approach.
To be successful in this position you will bring:
- Developing practical knowledge of the administrative and technical provisions of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016, Local Government Act 1999 and an understanding of general planning procedures/requirements and development applications.
- Prior experience working with the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver positive customer experiences.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Highly organised with excellent time management and close attention to detail.
Although not essential, the following qualifications and knowledge would be highly regarded:
- A tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning (or related field) or expecting to be completed within the next six months.
- Working knowledge of Objective, Authority, Pathway or similar software and the PlanSA portal.
- General knowledge of the role of Local Government in planning and administrative services.
- Familiarity with the Council area.
