About IHM
The Institute of Health & Management (IHM) is a TEQSA-registered Australian higher education provider (PRV14040, CRICOS 03407G), delivering social work, nursing, health and management courses from campuses in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane. The Bachelor of Social Work is accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers under the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards. It is delivered by a discrete School of Social Work with a documented governance and reporting framework, defined decision rights and direct reporting lines - the structure ASWEAS Standard 8 requires, and the structure that lets an academic leader do the work rather than negotiate for the authority to do it.
About the Role
As Course Coordinator you hold the delegated authority for the day-to-day academic operation of the Bachelor of Social Work, working under the Head of School, Social Work, who is IHM's Discipline Lead for the purposes of ASWEAS Standard 8.
You will lead course delivery, unit sequencing and teaching allocation within the approved workload model; lead the assessment and moderation cycle through to the release and ratification of results; sustain the evidence base that ASWEAS accreditation and the Higher Education Standards Framework require; and work with the Field Education Coordinator so that every student's field education placement is safe, high in quality and fully compliant. You will be the first point of academic escalation for students, a visible mentor to academic and sessional staff, and a champion of culturally safe practice.

This is a defined, resourced and supported role, not a title attached to an impossible brief. Workload allocation authority sits with the Head of School. Sessional engagement runs through a named HR Coordinator dedicated to IHM Social Work, against published service standards. You will know what you are accountable for, and you will have the structure behind you to deliver it.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide academic leadership and coordinate the Bachelor of Social Work across campuses and delivery modes, ensuring consistent academic quality and student experience.
- Lead and support curriculum development, review and delivery in line with ASWEAS, AASW standards, the AQF and Higher Education Standards Framework.
- Support AASW accreditation and ongoing regulatory compliance, maintaining appropriate evidence and contributing to accreditation and review activities.
- Lead and mentor academic and sessional staff, including supporting the effective allocation of teaching and academic responsibilities.
- Oversee assessment quality, moderation, results governance and external benchmarking.
- Work closely with the Field Education Coordinator to support high-quality, safe and compliant field education experiences.
- Drive student engagement, progression, retention and success through early identification and appropriate academic and practice support.
- Promote culturally safe, inclusive and respectful learning environments, including embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives throughout the course.
- Lead course monitoring, review and continuous improvement informed by student, staff and industry feedback and performance data.
- Maintain active scholarship and professional engagement, teach into the course as required, and represent IHM with relevant professional and industry stakeholders.
Essential Criteria
- A social work qualification recognised by the AASW as a qualifying professional social work degree, with eligibility for AASW membership.
- A postgraduate qualification at AQF Level 8 or above in social work or a closely related discipline, or equivalent qualifications and experience assessed under IHM's academic equivalence framework.
- A minimum of five years' post-qualifying professional social work practice experience.
- At least three years' experience coordinating or supporting the coordination of an accredited social work or health course in higher education, including academic staff leadership or supervision.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of ASWEAS, AASW Practice Standards, AASW Code of Ethics, AQF and the Higher Education Standards Framework.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, assessment design, moderation and academic quality assurance.
- Strong contemporary higher education teaching capability, with evidence of ongoing scholarship, research or professional practice.
- Demonstrated commitment to culturally safe practice with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
- Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder engagement and team development skills.
Desirable Criteria
- Current AASW membership and active professional engagement.
- A tertiary teaching qualification or recognised teaching fellowship.
- Experience contributing to AASW or TEQSA accreditation or reaccreditation processes.
- Experience coordinating field education, including agency partnerships and supervisor development.
- Experience in online, blended, simulation- or scenario-based learning.
- Experience in multi-campus delivery or supporting regional and rural workforce pathways.

- An NDIS Worker Screening Check, where required.

Pay: $130,000.00 – $150,000.00 per year
