Team Leader – Disability Support
Great Disability Support
Are you the kind of person who loves people, enjoys being on the phone, naturally builds relationships and gets energy from helping a team succeed?
We’re looking for a Team Leader who can bring energy, warmth and leadership to our team at Great Disability Support.
This isn’t a role for someone who wants to sit quietly behind a computer all day. You’ll be talking with Support Workers, participants, families and other members of the GDS team, solving problems, checking in with people and helping make sure our supports are running successfully.
We’re looking for someone who is naturally people-focused, confident, positive and proactive. Someone who can pick up the phone without hesitation, build rapport quickly and be the person their team feels comfortable coming to when they need help.
What you'll be doing
As a Team Leader, you'll be responsible for supporting and leading a group of Disability Support Workers and helping ensure our participants receive consistent, high-quality support.
Your role will include:
- Building strong relationships with your Support Workers and participants
- Regularly checking in with staff and keeping communication flowing
- Supporting, coaching and motivating Support Workers
- Helping staff work through challenges and difficult situations
- Having professional conversations with participants, families and other stakeholders
- Making sure participant needs, routines and support expectations are understood by the team
- Helping identify issues early and working with the wider GDS team to resolve them
- Supporting new staff as they settle into their roles
- Participating in participant and team meetings
- Following up on incidents, documentation and other important matters
- Using our digital systems to communicate, document information and keep on top of your responsibilities
- Helping create a positive, supportive and accountable team culture
The person we're looking for
Personality and attitude are incredibly important to us.
You might be a great fit if you:
- Love talking to people and naturally build relationships
- Are confident picking up the phone and calling someone rather than avoiding a conversation
- Bring positive energy into a team
- Enjoy helping other people perform at their best
- Are approachable and make people feel comfortable talking to you
- Are confident having difficult conversations when they are needed
- Take initiative rather than waiting to be told what to do
- Are comfortable making decisions and solving problems
- Can juggle multiple things happening at once without losing sight of people
- Are confident with technology and can learn new systems quickly
- Communicate clearly through phone, email, messaging and face-to-face conversations
- Care genuinely about delivering great support to people with disability
Previous leadership experience is highly regarded, particularly within disability or community services, but we are also interested in people who have naturally taken on leadership responsibilities and are ready for their next step.
What matters most to us
We can teach systems and processes.
What is much harder to teach is energy, communication, initiative and a genuine ability to connect with people.
We want someone who gets to know their team, notices when something isn't right, celebrates when people are doing well and isn't afraid to step in when support or direction is needed.
You'll need to balance being supportive and approachable with being able to hold people accountable to the standards expected at Great Disability Support.
You'll also need
- Experience within disability, community services or a similar people-focused environment is highly regarded
- NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to obtain one
- Current First Aid and CPR, or willingness to obtain them
- Current driver's licence
- Appropriate working-with-children clearance where required
- Confidence using computers, smartphones and online workplace systems
Why join Great Disability Support?
We're a growing disability support organisation that genuinely cares about both the people we support and the people who work with us.
We're continuing to develop the way we deliver support, and this role gives you the opportunity to have a real impact on your team rather than simply managing a checklist.
If you're someone who gets energy from people, loves bringing a team together and wants a role where your personality and leadership actually matter, we'd love to hear from you.
