The Aboriginal Cancer Program Lead provides strategic and operational leadership to cultivate an organisation wide culture that is respectful, inclusive, and responsive to Aboriginal people. This role plays a critical part in driving sustainable cultural change by building strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and influencing organisational practices to embed cultural safety at across the ISLHD Cancer and Haematology Network.
The program lead is responsible for coordinating and supporting the delivery of high-impact programs that strengthen cultural capability across ISLHD Cancer and Haematology Network. It shapes and champions the development, implementation, governance, and reporting of initiatives that promote Aboriginal cultural capability, inclusion, and respect, ensuring these efforts are aligned with the ISLHD Cancer and Haematology Network Plan. This is achieved by providing strategic guidance to empower Aboriginal staff and ensure culturally sensitive approaches are integrated into workforce and service delivery activities.
This position requires strong local community connections, and the ability to provide astute, respectful guidance to non-Aboriginal stakeholders. Through its leadership, the Aboriginal Cancer Program Lead enables culturally safe and inclusive practices to be embedded across the organisation, fostering an environment where Aboriginal staff and communities feel respected, valued, and supported.
Aboriginal Cancer Program Lead will also play a key role in providing line management, cultural mentoring, guidance and support to Aboriginal Cancer Care Coordinators at Illawarra Cancer Care Centre and Shoalhaven Cancer Care Centre

Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed-base count of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.
