Physical Sciences
Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist - Casual
Site: Parkville, Moorabbin, Box Hill, Bendigo, and Sunshine
Grade 1 - $37.41 to $ 46.45 per hour
The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is Australia’s only public hospital solely dedicated to cancer and one of an elite group of hospitals worldwide with its own integrated cancer research program and laboratories.
Peter Mac boasts a comprehensive range of imaging, planning and treatment equipment distributed across five campuses; four metropolitan and one regional. This includes 7 Phillips Brilliance Big Bore and Siemens SOMATOM CT scanners with 4D imaging capability, PET-CT scanner, 16 Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators, and a cloud-hosted, hospital-wide Varian Eclipse treatment planning system. We also support a variety of brachytherapy techniques.
The Physical Sciences department at Peter Mac comprises a group of 41 medical physicists (5 in training). A key role for the department is the provision of physics support for Peter Mac’s radiotherapy services. This includes commissioning and quality assurance of equipment, radiation safety, clinical dosimetry, and planning support for specialized treatments such as brachytherapy, stereotactic therapy, whole body irradiation and IMRT/VMAT.
We have an opportunity to employ an experienced Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist on a casual basis to cover staff shortages due to leave. Candidates on the ACPSEM register with current experience in Varian Linacs, Eclipse TPS, Phillips CT and Sun Nuclear QA devices are encouraged to apply.
Casual shifts are for a minimum period of 3 hours; however, the focus is on providing backfill for longer periods to cover staff on leave. This position will require some out-of-hours duties, which may include weekend work and may involve some mobility between Peter Mac sites.
Potential candidates should be capable of self-directed work and have excellent problem-solving skills. Good oral and written communication skills are required, as is the ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.
Successful candidates will be appointed to a grade commensurate with experience.
