About the Department
The Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) Surveillance Program is a specialised research and surveillance team within Monash Health that conducts active hospital-based surveillance of serious infectious diseases and adverse events following immunisation across paediatric and adult populations.
Working collaboratively with infectious diseases clinicians, research nurses, researchers and external stakeholders, the team supports the collection, management and analysis of high-quality data to inform public health responses and contribute to nationally significant research initiatives. Conditions under surveillance include COVID-19, RSV, influenza, invasive meningococcal disease, myocarditis, encephalitis, polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases.
About the Role
Join our team as a Research Assistant on a casual (0.4-0.6 FTE), 12-month contract within the VPD Surveillance team at Monash Health, Clayton. In this role, you will be guided by the VPD Surveillance Manager and work closely with infectious diseases consultants, research nurses, fellows and the broader research team. This is an exciting opportunity for an organised and detail-oriented individual to support important infectious diseases research and surveillance activities through high-quality data management and administrative support.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting participant screening and recruitment for VPD surveillance studie
Managing research databases, including REDCap and Excel datasets
Conducting research data entry, validation and maintenance activities
Screening health information systems and databases against study inclusion and exclusion criteria
Supporting project documentation, reporting and record keeping
Liaising with internal and external research stakeholders
Contributing to data management processes and quality improvement initiatives
The role may require collaboration with stakeholders across Monash Health sites and affiliated research organisations.
About You
To be successful in this healthcare role, you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience, and attributes:
Experience in research data management, database administration or clinical research support
Strong proficiency using Excel, REDCap and other electronic databases
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
High attention to detail and data accuracy
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality, privacy and information handling principles
Experience using healthcare information systems such as EMR, AIR or similar systems is highly regarded
Previous research experience, including data collection and reporting, is desirable
Mandatory requirements:
Interest and/or experience in clinical research
Current Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification, or willingness to obtain
Ability to meet Monash Health employment, immunisation and screening requirements
