Flinders Medical Centre is one of South Australia's leading tertiary hospitals, and its Paediatric Unit is where skilled nurses make a genuine difference in the lives of children and their families every shift.
About the role:
This 33-bed Paediatric Ward provides specialised care for infants, children, and adolescents with a wide range of medical, surgical, and emergency conditions. As part of the Paediatric Unit nursing team at Flinders Medical Centre, you will deliver high-quality clinical care to paediatric patients across a range of presentations within the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN).
Duties for the role will include:
Providing evidence-based nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for paediatric patients across a range of acute and complex presentations.
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams — including medical officers, allied health, and specialist services — to coordinate safe, patient-centred outcomes.
Delivering family-centred care by actively involving parents and caregivers in treatment planning and discharge preparation.
Supporting families through clear, compassionate communication during what can be a stressful and uncertain time.
Maintaining accurate, timely clinical documentation within established electronic and paper-based systems.
Contributing to a culture of clinical safety by adhering to infection control protocols and participating in ward-based quality improvement activities.
Providing peer support and informal guidance to less experienced team members where appropriate to your registration level.
About you:
Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
In order to administer medicines, Enrolled Nurses must have completed a Board-approved program of study which includes an administration of medicines unit.
Experience working in Acute Paediatric nursing settings advantageous.
Demonstrated competence in Paediatric nursing practice in accordance with the relevant standards.
Effective communication skills including, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to prioritise workloads and work flexibly within a team-based care model.
Ability to be, creative, innovative and flexible when approaching issues within a healthcare setting.
Demonstrated commitment to providing children and family centred care.
