About the role
Reporting to the Head of Finance & Sustainability, this purpose of this position is to:
- Provide enterprise-wide financial control oversight and independent assurance over the integrity, completeness and accuracy of the Group’s balance sheet, profit and loss, and external disclosures.
- Lead the financial control agenda with a strong focus on risk management, regulatory compliance, control effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
- Drive innovation, automation and process streamlining across financial control activities to improve efficiency, reduce manual risk and strengthen reporting quality.
- Act as the primary finance contact for external regulators and statutory stakeholders on financial control, prudential reporting and audit matters.
- Partner with senior leaders across Finance and the business to strengthen governance, support strategic decision-making and uplift the control environment.
The position will manage a team of direct reports across the financial control business unit.
The position can be based at our head office in Perth or one of our corporate offices in Brisbane or Coffs Harbour and will be eligible for hybrid working arrangements.
What will you bring?
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- Experience in a similar position in the banking sector in Australia.
- Tertiary qualification in Commerce, Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- CA or CPA qualification required.
- Confidence engaging with executives, auditors, regulators and cross-functional stakeholders.
- A sound understanding of treasury activities and the interaction between treasury, prudential obligations and financial control.
- Advanced Excel capability with strong modelling, reconciliation and analysis skills.
- A working knowledge of finance systems, data structures and technical tools such as SQL or VBA is desirable.
- Comfort using technology to improve process efficiency and control outcomes.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence, collaborate and tailor messaging to different audiences.
- High levels of accountability, judgement and ownership.
- Strong organisation and time management with the ability to lead independently and manage competing priorities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with a focus on identifying root causes and delivering practical, risk-aware solutions.
