About the role
Reporting to the Signal Supervisor, the Senior Signal Maintenance Technician will provide leadership and guidance to members of the team and drawing on prior experience obtained through the industry. As a senior member of the team, you will also provide relevant training and support to Signal Maintenance Technicians and Trainee Signal Maintenance Technicians.

We're looking for an experienced Signal Maintenance Technician who's passionate about safety, reliability and developing others. You'll bring extensive signalling experience, strong technical capability and a proactive approach to problem solving, along with the ability to lead by example and support the growth of less experienced team members.

Your day will involve:
- Leading and delivering planned maintenance activities on signalling and communications equipment, ensuring all work is completed in line with maintenance schedules and technical maintenance plans.
- Diagnosing, investigating and rectifying signalling faults, including leading root cause analysis, completing failure reports and coordinating with stakeholders to restore network performance.
- Installing, testing and commissioning signalling infrastructure, ensuring assets are delivered and maintained to the highest safety and quality standards.
- Supporting maintenance planning and continuous improvement, including assisting with corrective maintenance plans, scoping works, costing activities and providing technical advice to the Signal Supervisor.
- Championing safety and compliance, participating in safety briefings, conducting quality checks, adhering to industry procedures and ensuring all maintenance records are accurately captured in maintenance management systems.
Key accountabilities include:
Assist with the maintenance and installation of work on signalling and communications equipment.
Assist with the allocated routine maintenance tasks to accord with the technical maintenance plan and servicing schedules and enter task-completing reports to the maintenance management system.
Assist with the use of service schedules and maintenance instructions to guide reactive and preventative activities.
- Mentoring and developing team members, including providing on-the-job training, conducting competency assessments and supporting the growth of Signal Maintenance Technicians and Trainees.
- While this is not a regular requirement, on occasions you may be required to work late or night shifts, depending on operational needs.
To be considered for entry into the selection process for this role, applicants must meet the following 'key selection criteria' which forms part of our merit-based recruitment process:
- Current Driver's License.
- A Certificate III – Electrotechnology.
- Certificate IV in Rail Signalling
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Meet V/Line’s Rail Industry Worker safety benchmarks.
- Minimum five years' experience as a Signal Technician with proven expertise in installation, maintenance, and fault diagnosis of railway signalling systems.
- Demonstrated alignment with V/Line’s values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.

Remuneration for this position will be in line with the V/Line Rail Asset Management Enterprise Agreement 2023 and paid as an IMW (SIG & ELEC) 3.3 to 3.4.
