Senior Financial Accountant
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial reporting across the Australian entities, with particular ownership of balance sheet reconciliations, month-end close, technical accounting and statutory compliance.
The role applies strong IFRS and AASB technical knowledge and hands-on NetSuite capability to deliver accurate, timely and well-supported financial information, identify and resolve accounting issues, strengthen controls and support sound business decisions.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including detailed variance analysis and supporting commentary for management review.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger across multiple Australian entities through accurate journals, account analysis, reconciliations and timely correcting entries in NetSuite.
- Own the monthly balance sheet reconciliation process for assigned Australian entities, ensuring every account is fully substantiated, reconciling items are clearly explained and aged, supporting documentation is retained, and outstanding matters are investigated and cleared promptly.
- Drive assigned month-end and year-end close activities to timetable, including accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, depreciation, intercompany balances and review of unusual or aged balances.
- Research and document technical accounting matters under IFRS and AASB, prepare clear accounting position papers where required, and ensure transactions and disclosures comply with applicable standards, statutory requirements and Group policies.
- Liaise with external auditors, banking representatives, and tax advisors to support audit processes and statutory reporting requirements.
- Use NetSuite reporting, saved searches, reconciliations and multi-entity functionality to improve close accuracy, reporting efficiency, data integrity and internal controls.
- Support Group consolidations in a multi-entity and multi-currency environment, including intercompany reconciliations, eliminations and foreign-currency accounting.
- Maintain robust financial controls, promptly escalate control deficiencies or unusual balances, and support the implementation of remediation actions.
- Support taxation compliance activities, including preparation of BAS returns, FBT returns, income tax schedules, and other statutory reporting obligations.
- Provide support, guidance, and knowledge sharing to other team members where required.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as reasonably required to support the effective operation of the Finance function.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, commerce or a related field is essential.
- CA ANZ or CPA qualification (or an equivalent internationally recognised accounting qualification) is essential.
- At least five years of relevant accounting experience, including substantial commercial experience in a complex, multi-entity corporate environment and demonstrated responsibility for month-end close and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Strong, current technical accounting knowledge and demonstrated practical application of both IFRS and AASB; able to research complex issues and prepare well-supported accounting conclusions.
- Demonstrated experience in financial consolidations, intercompany accounting and multi-currency reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with large and complex data sets.
- Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a disciplined approach to investigating and clearing reconciling items.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical accounting matters clearly to finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Strong collaboration, stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
- Strong, hands-on NetSuite experience is essential, including general ledger, journals, account reconciliations, reporting and saved searches in a multi-entity environment.
- Ability to manage competing close and reporting deadlines, work autonomously and contribute effectively as part of the wider team.
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Exposure to SaaS business models, subscription-based revenue, deferred revenue and IFRS 15 / AASB 15 revenue recognition.
