The Opportunity
At Shine, we champion better justice for our clients. And as
Solicitor on a permanent, full-time basis, working in our Sydney CBD-based
Class Actions Investigations team, that starts with you.
Our Investigations Team is responsible for advancing the class actions of tomorrow. Through detailed investigations, legal analysis and commercial assessment, you'll support our Sydney CBD-based Investigations Manager to build the foundations of cases that can deliver meaningful outcomes for thousands of Australians. From social justice and employment matters to consumer, environmental, securities and financial services claims, you’ll work on cases at the heart of Australia’s public interest while supporting the future growth of Shine's Class Actions practice.
With empathy, adaptability and initiative, you will be a true champion of our clients by:
- conducting legal, regulatory and factual research across prospective class action matters;
- reviewing and synthesising source material, including judgments, regulator announcements, analyst commentary, media reports, complaints data and client materials;
- preparing chronologies, issue summaries, case notes, briefing notes and investigation records to support evidence-based assessment recommendations;
- assisting with initial viability assessments, including merits, case theory, quantum, recoverability, commercial prospects and likely investigative requirements;
- identifying legal, evidentiary, commercial or funding risks and escalating issues that may require senior input, counsel advice or specialist expertise;
- supporting the Investigations Manager with tracking investigation milestones, action items, budgets, disbursements and financial thresholds;
- maintaining accurate, complete and audit-ready investigation records, including saving and organising materials in relevant internal systems;
- supporting reporting to the Head of Class Actions by preparing concise updates on investigation status, key risks, next steps and outcomes; and
- using AI and internal systems responsibly to improve efficiency in research, document review, information management and workflow processes.
What you’ll bring
- Experience as a litigation, dispute resolution and/or class actions’ solicitor, with up to 2-3 years' post-admission experience.
- Valid practising certificate.
- Strong research and analytical skills;
- Ability to synthesise complex information into concise written summaries;
- Attention to detail and disciplined record keeping;
- Comfort working across multiple early-stage matters at once;
- Curiosity about class actions, regulation, public interest litigation and commercial case assessment;
- A strong understanding of, and ability to interpret legal research, legal documentation, and legislation;
- An innate ability to question, challenge the status quo and always stay ahead of the pack;
- You’ll be a great communicator both verbally and in writing;
- A commitment to truly connect with those around you and work together to deliver exceptional results for our clients;
- The passion, motivation and enthusiasm to contribute to our culture and ensure it’s a place where everyone can thrive.
