Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Lead Surveyor, you will be responsible for overseeing all survey operations across the project. You will work closely with engineering, construction, and project management teams to ensure all survey data is accurate, timely, and aligned with project specification and client requirements. Specifically, responsibilities will include:
Lead surveys across multiple pipeline sections
Be the main point of contact for managing any sub-contracted survey scope, if the need arises
Plan and execute survey strategies in line with project requirements
Conduct and supervise field surveys including topographic and construction surveys
Establish and maintain RTK control networks and GNSS base station infrastructure
Convert design data into machine-ready files using TBC, load into construction equipment, and maintain GPS calibration on machines throughout construction
Conduct field as-built surveys including pipeline centreline, depth of cover, weld locations, fittings, crossings, trench breakers, and marker posts – capture data to a standard that supports handover to the back-end processing team
Perform daily field data processing and reporting at end of each shift
Act as the quality gate for depth of cover compliance checks prior to backfill approval
Perform quality control checks on supplied designs and as built data collected
Construction set-out for critical points including tie-ins, crossings, valve assemblies, and kiosks
Prepare detailed survey reports, maps, and data sets for project use
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards
Liaise with project engineers, clients, and subcontractors
Skills and Experiences:
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Tertiary qualification in Surveying (required)
A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in the construction, oil and gas or civil industry
Experience working with GDA94 coordinate system (desired)
Experience with earthworks quantity surveys and volume calculations (desired)
Experience with Trimble GPS equipment including base station setup, GNSS control networks, and RTK calibration
Competent in use of TBC (Trimble Business Centre), ArcGIS or QGIS – ability to view and navigate GIS datasets
Experience with machine control / machine guidance data preparation, loading, and GPS calibration on construction equipment
Pipeline, CSG, or gas gathering network experience preferred – candidates with solar, mining, or civil survey experience with transferable skills will also be considered
Ability to work independently as the sole surveyor on site
Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills at all levels
Desire to work within a supportive team, display great drive and job focus
Agile planning and programming skills applicable to continuous moving targets across work fronts
Ability to work 19:9 roster in client supplied operational camp
