Bonbeach Preschool aims to introduce each child to an enjoyable and challenging environment where they can develop a love of learning. The program encompasses all areas of development; intellectual, social, emotional, physical and language enrichment. Bonbeach Preschool offers a play based program based on the needs and interests of the children, using the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) and the thoughts and ideas of many Early Childhood theorists and researchers. Teachers and educators also contribute to the program by introducing concepts, information and experiences to enrich, challenge and extend children’s learning. Bonbeach Preschool curriculum is developed by teachers after direct observation of the children, both individually and as a whole group and in response to the goals that are set for each child’s journey of learning and development. This allows for each child’s preschool experience to be tailored to their needs. We are a child safe organisation and prioritise this in both our pedagogy and practice. We highly value the links between home, preschool, school and the wider community and work in partnership with all of these groups to provide the best start for each child on their education journey. Children are encouraged to freely explore the preschool environment and follow their curiosities, while being guided by the preschool’s dedicated team of staff. Each child explores at their own pace and level and are encouraged by teachers to build confidence, independence and strive for their best. Bonbeach Preschool fosters in each child a feeling of self-worth, kindness, independence, respect for others, tolerance and self-discipline. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the Land, the Bunurong members of the Kulin Nation, on which Bonbeach Preschool is situated. We endeavour to develop strong feelings and understanding of belonging and believe in providing an environment which reflects the cultural richness of its members within our day to day program. We have successfully been running a bush and beach kinder program for our four year old groups for the past 9 years. During our assessment and rating process in 2023, we achieved exceeding in all seven quality areas.
Three-year-old preschool is a big year for many children. It can often be the first time they are away from family or a part of a social group of children the same age. At Bonbeach Preschool, children are given opportunities to learn, explore and extend their development in a safe and structured learning environment. Children have many aspects to their development. At Bonbeach Preschool we endeavour to provide ample experience in situations to help nurture these areas of development. The early childhood teacher develops a program that meets the individual needs of the children. The program is delivered in an informal manner which enables the children to move freely from one activity to another and to work at their own pace under the guidance of the teacher and supporting educator. Our program is responsive to the needs, interests, and strengths of the particular children in each group, and maintains a flexible approach to meeting very specific individual and group objectives within the preschool program. While it may seem like a child is “just playing” at preschool, they are most likely learning very valuable skills to build a foundation for lifelong learning. What adults see as play, is in fact, ‘children’s work’ and a way in which they’re practicing, discovering, engaging, repeating and observing in order to make sense of their world. We are fortunate to be on the same premises at Bonbeach Primary School giving Bonbeach Preschoolers ample opportunity to share facilities, engage in community events and be provided with an impeccable transition in to four year old kindergarten and then "big school".
