About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Health Information, the Freedom of Information & Information Access Manager leads the management and release of information held by Forensicare, ensuring compliance with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic) and other relevant legislation. The role acts as the decision-maker for FOI requests and oversees a dedicated information access function.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage Forensicare's Freedom of Information and information access service.
- Make decisions on FOI requests in accordance with legislative requirements.
- Oversee complex and sensitive information access matters, reviews and complaints.
- Coordinate responses relating to subpoenas, witness summons, AHPRA requests, police investigations and coronial matters.
- Provide expert advice, training and guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Develop policies, procedures and quality improvement initiatives to strengthen compliance and service delivery.
- Lead and support the Freedom of Information and Information Access Officer.
- Represent Forensicare in external forums and stakeholder engagements.
About You
You will bring a strong understanding of information access legislation along with leadership experience and a commitment to high-quality public sector service delivery.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant qualification in law, information management or data protection.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic) and related regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply FOI legislation in complex environments.
- Experience managing information release processes and compliance obligations.
- Proven capability leading and developing staff.
- Exceptional written communication and decision-writing skills.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation and relationship management skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and sensitive information with integrity and professionalism.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic), Health Records Act 2001 (Vic), and Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022.
