Savera Indian & Nepalese Restaurant is seeking an experienced and passionate Full-Time Chef to join our growing team. We are looking for a dedicated professional with strong knowledge of authentic Indian and Nepalese cuisine, excellent cooking skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan menus in consultation with management, considering customer preferences, seasonal availability, and food costs.
- Estimate food and labour costs while maintaining profitability.
- Prepare, season, and cook a wide range of Indian and Nepalese dishes to a consistently high standard.
- Ensure all meals are presented attractively and meet quality standards before service.
- Monitor food quality, taste, freshness, and portion control.
- Develop new menu items and improve existing recipes.
- Supervise, train, and mentor cooks, apprentices, and kitchen staff.
- Allocate kitchen duties and monitor staff performance.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels and order food, ingredients, and kitchen supplies.
- Inspect deliveries to ensure quality and freshness of ingredients.
- Minimise food waste and implement effective stock rotation procedures.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace health and safety regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen equipment, workstations, and storage areas.
- Coordinate with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth and timely food service.
- Monitor kitchen operations during service to ensure efficiency and consistency.
- Ensure all equipment is used safely and report any maintenance requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory, food temperatures, and cleaning schedules.
- Assist in managing kitchen operations to achieve customer satisfaction and business objectives.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent qualification); OR
- At least three (3) years of relevant full-time work experience as a Chef.
- Strong knowledge of Indian and Nepalese cuisine.
- Ability to work under pressure in a busy kitchen environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Understanding of Australian food safety and hygiene standards.
