About Us
Mitcham Florist is an established florist specialising in daily flower deliveries, weddings, events, professional funeral flowers, and business opening flowers. We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Florist Assistant to join our team.
About the Role
This is a support role within a busy flower shop and involves a combination of flower processing, flower care, customer service, shop maintenance, and assisting florists with daily orders.
This is not a florist position. However, candidates who demonstrate strong skills, initiative, and a good work ethic may have opportunities to develop floral design skills over time.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 6–12 months of recent experience working in an Australian florist shop.
- Applications without florist shop experience will not be considered.
- Fluent English communication skills.
- Available to work 1–2 days per week, with additional availability during major floral seasons such as Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, and other peak periods.
- Comfortable around dogs (we have two friendly dogs in the shop daily).
- Physically fit and capable of standing for extended periods and lifting flower buckets.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong work ethic with a willingness to assist in all areas of the business.
Preferred Experience
The following experience will be highly regarded:
- Funeral flowers preparation experience.
- Experience preparing business opening flower stands and assisting large-scale congratulatory arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
- Processing and tidy fresh flowers that arrived on our market day.
- Plant care.
- Assisting with bouquet and arrangement preparation, sometimes help with deliveries.
- Wrapping flowers, gifts, and hampers.
- General cleaning and shop maintenance.
- Customer service and sales support.
- Opening shop duties when required.
- Supporting the team during weddings, events, funerals, and peak seasonal periods.
Please Note
This role includes a significant amount of flower preparation, cleaning, lifting, and general shop duties. Applicants looking primarily for floral design work may find this position unsuitable.
Pay: From $34.76 per hour
