Primary objective
As part of the central Privacy Unit, support the delivery of privacy services to Northern Territory Government (NTG) client agencies to
meet their privacy responsibilities in accordance with the Information Act 2002 (NT) and related privacy obligations.
Context statement
The Privacy function within the Freedom of Information and Privacy unit provides high quality, standardised and centralised advice and
support to NTG agencies in relation to privacy, in compliance with the Information Act 2002 (NT) and other relevant privacy laws.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist in the delivery of privacy by design, training and support services to client agencies to ensure compliance with the Information
Act 2002 (NT) and other statutory obligations.
2. Deliver standardised and customised privacy training programs in multiple formats, to meet the current and strategic needs of NTG
client agencies.
3. Provide preliminary privacy advice, support and training to agency staff and other stakeholders regarding privacy principles, practices,
systems and issues, release of information, information handling practices and obligations under the Information Act 2002 (NT) and
other relevant legislation.
4. Mentor and provide support and training to a team of staff involved in the delivery of the privacy services.
5. Assist in developing, delivering and maintaining policies, templates, materials and other resources, as well as standardised and
customised training programs that support consistent privacy practices.
6. Actively participate in the preparation of reports, briefings, correspondence, and other documentation to support the delivery of
privacy services to NTG client agencies.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated knowledge of privacy in accordance with the Information Act 2002 (NT) or other privacy legislation, or demonstrated
experience in interpreting and applying legislation, and conducting research, or ability to quickly acquire same.
2. Demonstrated effectiveness in a highly sensitive, confidential, and complex environment with a high level of integrity, discretion and
confidentiality.
3. Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training and communicate information in a clear and engaging way to build capability in
others.
4. High level of interpersonal, oral and written communication and reporting skills with strong customer service and the ability to gain
the cooperation of internal and external clients and agency staff.
5. Demonstrated capacity to provide mentoring to support new and existing staff in a dynamic and complex work environment.
6. Demonstrated organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise competing priorities, meet deadlines and
maintain accurate records within established processes.
7. Demonstrated work ethic and attitude which emulates the Department of Corporate and Digital Development (DCDD) values of
being professional, accountable, honest, innovative and respectful.
Desirable
1. Previous experience in privacy, information management, governance or similar discipline.
2. Ability to adapt to change and contribute to the development of new systems, processes and tools.
