Primary objective
Based at the Darwin Correctional Centre (DCC), the Manager Rosters, and Operational Support will be required to provide quality
generalist and specialist advice and support to the managers and employees on diverse range of rosters and leave matters to ensure
operational compliance with enterprise agreements to enhance the capability and delivery of the department’s business outcome.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide advice and support to management and staff on rostering, leave, operational compliance with legislation, enterprise
agreements, and performance reporting to achieve agency outcomes.
2. Provide leadership of the rosters team to deliver cost effective rostering, including overtime and higher duties, to meet
operational requirements of Darwin Correctional Centre (DCC), Berrimah Correctional Centre (BCC), and Datjala Work Camp
(DWC).
3. Provide leadership to a small team to ensure the leave management and operational compliance with the enterprise agreements
and to provide high level administrative support to the General Manager and senior corrections leadership team at DCC, BCC
and DWC to maintain appropriate staffing.
4. Investigate and prepare complex documents, operational policy, directives, or correspondence on behalf of the GM with respect
to rosters and operational staffing at the Centres.
5. Develop and maintain effective collaborative relationships with senior management, staff, and external service providers to
ensure advice, organisational capacity building and change management activities are aligned to business needs.
6. Provide a key liaison conduit for requests from the GM and senior leadership team across the centres to the centralised HR
support team.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and lead a small busy team.
2. Demonstrated experience in rostering systems for 24/7 operational environment and ability to apply enterprise agreement and
legislative compliance within the rosters.
3. High level communication and negotiation skills to enable effective intervention or management of sensitive and/or
complicated issues.
4. Proven capacity to maintain high-level personal performance, resilience, and ability to deal with high workloads and competing
priorities to deliver effective outcomes in a timely manner to adapt to meet changing demands and tight deadlines.
5. Proven skills in the effective use of computer systems and spreadsheet applications including Word, Excel, mainframe and
databases, and roster systems with the ability to analyse data and produce meaningful reports.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline e.g. Public Administration Business Management, Human Resource Management
or similar
