We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Financial Control team at Department of Customer Service. This role is pivotal in ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and supporting strategic decision-making through accurate financial information.
As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for managing complex accounting processes, preparing financial statements, and providing expert advice on technical accounting matters. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and external auditors to maintain robust financial controls and deliver high-quality outcomes.

Key accountabilities

Manage general ledger reconciliations and coordinate month-end and year-end close processes to ensure the timely and accurate recording of financial transactions.

Prepare and deliver regular financial reports, reconciliations, and statutory returns, ensuring compliance with legislative and reporting requirements while supporting informed business decision-making.

Provide financial advice, training, and operational support to stakeholders to promote effective financial management and compliance with policies and procedures.

Prepare and contribute to financial reports, business cases, briefing papers, and other management submissions, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely completion.

Analyse financial data, processes, and systems to identify trends, resolve issues, enhance reporting capabilities, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Support external and internal audit activities by preparing required documentation and liaising with auditors to address enquiries and recommendations.

Collaborate with key stakeholders to support finance system implementations, integrations, upgrades, and reporting enhancements.

Develop and maintain effective working relationships with business units to support financial reporting and control functions.

Mentor, coach, and support junior team members to build capability, encourage professional development, and promote a high-performance culture.
Key requirements

Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

Professional membership CA or CPA.

Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, NSW Treasury Circulars, and relevant legislation.

Demonstrated experience in financial accounting within a large or complex organization.
Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, TM- .

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
