The Opportunity
We're seeking a dedicated Mechanical Fitter to join our team and take charge of mechanical assets. This position is base in our Picton Refinery and offers a great work & home life balance on a Monday to Friday roster.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out the assembly and installation of fabricated metal components and mechanical subassemblies to support the operation, maintenance and repair of plant equipment and machinery.
- Perform detailed inspection of completed and installed parts, verifying dimensional tolerances, alignment and clearances using precision measuring instruments to ensure compliance with operational requirements.
- Prepare, set up and calibrate machining equipment, including adjustment of guides, tooling and operational controls, to meet specified requirements for maintenance, repair and fabrication activities.
- Conduct troubleshooting on live and dead equipment, whether isolated or removed from the process.
- Handle minor and major services, replacements and rebuilds of mechanical assets.
- Proficiency with a wide range of mechanical assets, including Helical, Centrifugal, Gear pumps (Internal & External), Vacuum Pumps/Boosters, Submersible, Diaphragm, Multistage, etc.
- Maintain and troubleshoot gearboxes, cooling towers, water treatment systems, steam traps, and filtration systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Install, service, and inspect a range of mechanical seals, including single bellow and double bellow seals, ensuring correct fit and function.
- Interpret and apply technical seal drawings, accurately assessing operating lengths, clearances, and material specifications to support maintenance and installation activities.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking an individual who is self-motivated, proactive, has a strong attention to detail and embraces a can-do-attitude. To be successful in this role, you will need:
- An Australian recognised trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter
- Proven experience in machinery maintenance and repair
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Excellent communication both written and verbal
- Commitment to safety and a meticulous attention to detail
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience
