Disability Support Worker – Autism / Youth Support

We are currently seeking a punctual, reliable, and caring Disability Support Worker to support a 12-year-old autistic boy in South Melbourne.
The primary focus of this role is to assist the client in establishing and maintaining his daily routines, provide appropriate prompting to complete daily tasks, and support his participation in the community. You will also be expected to consistently implement support strategies and recommendations developed by relevant Allied Health Professionals.
Position Summary
- Location: South Melbourne, VIC
- Employment Type: Casual
- Pay Rate: $35–$38 per hour (weekday/standard rate), with applicable evening and weekend rates
- Immediate start available
- Primary shifts: Wednesdays and Fridays, approximately 3:30 pm–8:00 pm
- Availability for 2–4 days per week is preferred
- Flexible availability may also be required during school holidays
Previous experience supporting autistic children or young people is highly desirable.
A valid Australian Driver Licence and access to a reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle are required for this role.
POSITION OBJECTIVES
The Disability Support Worker is responsible for providing safe, person-centred and high-quality support in accordance with best practice, relevant legislation, NDIS requirements, organisational policies and individual support plans.
The successful applicant will be expected to work both independently and collaboratively with the client, family, support team and relevant Allied Health Professionals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESClient Support
In consultation with the supervisor, client and family/carers, provide flexible and responsive support according to the client's individual needs.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting and prompting daily routines and tasks
- Supporting the development of independence and daily living skills
- Community participation and social activities
- Transportation and assistance with shopping
- Meal preparation and other household tasks where required
- Personal care and hygiene support where required
- Medication assistance where authorised and required
- Supporting the client to build confidence and independence
- Implementing behavioural and therapeutic strategies recommended by Allied Health Professionals
- Observing and appropriately responding to behaviours of concern
- Maintaining accurate records, including progress notes and incident reports
- Reporting concerns, incidents, risks or changes in the client's needs to the supervisor

SELECTION CRITERIA
Applicants should demonstrate:

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of privacy, confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Understanding of workplace health and safety responsibilities
- Experience supporting autistic children or young people is highly regarded
- Experience with behaviours of concern is also viewed favourably
- Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability), Disability Support, or another relevant qualification, or currently working towards a relevant qualification
- Australian working rights
REQUIRED LICENCES AND CHECKS
Successful applicants will be required to hold or obtain:
- Valid Australian Driver Licence
- Reliable vehicle with comprehensive insurance
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Working with Children Check
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Relevant qualifications/certificates applicable to the role
