We are looking for an experienced, reliable and enthusiastic Market Driver & Sales Assistant to join our team.
About the role
This is a casual position operating from Friday to Sunday. Depending on business needs, you may be rostered on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or a combination of these days.
Each shift begins and ends at our bakery in Marrickville. Depending on the market, shifts generally commence between 5:30 am and 6:00 am. Market locations may be up to approximately one hour’s drive from the bakery.
You will be responsible for transporting stock and market equipment, setting up and operating a market stall, serving customers and completing return collections at the end of the day.
A typical shift will involve:
- Loading an automatic delivery van at our Marrickville bakery with stock and equipment for two market locations
- Driving to the first market and delivering stock and equipment for another Brickfields team member
- Driving to the second market, setting up the Brickfields stall and preparing it for trade
- Serving customers, processing sales and representing the Brickfields brand throughout the market
- Packing down your stall at the end of trade
- Returning to the first market to collect remaining stock, crates and equipment
- Driving back to Marrickville and unloading the van
Loading, unloading, travel between locations and all post-shift duties form part of your paid working hours.
Driver training and an introduction to the delivery routes will be provided. Additional shifts may also be available at our other locations for team members seeking more hours.
Key responsibilities
- Safely loading and unloading stock and market equipment
- Driving the company’s automatic delivery van between Marrickville and market locations
- Setting up and packing down market stalls
- Serving customers in a friendly and efficient manner
- Operating the Square point-of-sale system
- Maintaining accurate stock counts
- Keeping the stall clean, organised and well presented
- Communicating stock information, customer feedback and operational issues to the office
- Following food-safety, manual-handling and workplace-safety procedures
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- Has at least one year of customer service or retail experience
- Holds a current Australian driver’s licence
- Is a safe and confident driver
- Is available to work Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays or a combination of these days, depending on business needs
- Is comfortable with early-morning starts between 5:30 am and 6:00 am
- Is reliable, punctual and able to work independently
- Can communicate clearly with customers and colleagues
- Has sound literacy and numeracy skills
- Is physically fit and able to safely lift and move stock, crates and market equipment
- Can work efficiently in a busy environment
- Is enthusiastic about learning and sharing product knowledge
- Understands that driving and travel are essential parts of the position
A full Australian driver’s licence is preferred; however, applicants with a provisional licence will also be considered.
Experience in food retail, hospitality, markets or delivery driving would be an advantage.
Trial and training
Shortlisted applicants may be invited to complete a brief, directly supervised skills assessment. Any productive trial shift or work completed beyond a brief skills demonstration will be paid at the applicable casual rate.
Successful applicants will then complete paid training before working independently. Driver and route training will be provided to ensure you are comfortable operating the delivery van.
