Apply now to work at Lismore Base Hospital as a Cardiology Unaccredited Trainee (PGY4+) for the 2027 Clinical Year, commencing 1 February 2027. The successful applicant will gain valuable experience at the Lismore Base Hospital, working under the supervision and guidance of expert senior clinicians. The Unaccredited Trainee will be supported in a team consisting of an Advanced Trainee, Basic Physician Trainee, Medicine Trainee, and Intern/RMOs.
The position requires the candidate to participate in a rotating roster of day and evening shifts at the Lismore Base Hospital.

Education: Medicine Trainees (Registrars) are encouraged to attend our weekly Med Reg Journal Club which includes presentations by our Med Trainees and BPTs on rotation to Lismore, monthly Grand Rounds Whole Hospital, weekly Cardiology meetings, General Medicine Teaching and various education sessions hosted by both the Lismore Base Hospital and the University Centre for Rural Health (UCRH).

Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) is the recognised Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region and is linked with the local helicopter retrieval service.
The hospital is an acute regional referral hospital of 280 beds on the Far North Coast of NSW, serving a population of approximately 170,000 people on the Far North Coast of NSW and has a busy Emergency Department (40,000 presentations annually), ICU and Coronary Care Unit, as well as Surgery (general, orthopaedic and speciality surgery), Paediatrics, Mental Health, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the Unaccredited Trainee in Cardiology is to work as part of a team of clinicians to provide a comprehensive cardiology service. This will include day-to-day patient care encompassing outpatient clinics and ward service, support of junior doctors, and participation in non-invasive and invasive cardiac diagnostic procedures.
Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the trainee's skills, knowledge and experience. The medical officer will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.
