☕ Barista / All Rounder – Boardies Bar (Fitzroy)

Boardies Bar is more than just a café and bar—we're Melbourne's home of board games, themed trivia, community events, and genuinely good hospitality. We're looking for an experienced Barista / Bartender/ All Rounder to join our team.
We're after someone who enjoys working independently, takes pride in their work, and wants to help create a welcoming space where people can unplug, connect, and have fun.
About the Role
This is a varied hospitality role where no two days are the same. You'll be responsible for opening the venue for café service, making consistently great coffee, serving food and drinks, looking after guests, and helping the venue transition into our evening bar service. You'll also be comfortable working bar shifts when required and confidently closing the venue at the end of the night.
This role suits someone who enjoys taking ownership of their shift and doesn't need to be micromanaged.
What You'll Be Doing
- Opening the venue independently
- Preparing and serving high-quality coffee
- Providing exceptional customer service
- Serving beer, wine, cocktails and spirits during bar shifts
- Food running and light kitchen support when required
- Recommending and explaining board games to customers (don't worry—we'll help you learn!)
- Setting up and packing down the venue
- Closing and cash reconciliation
- Maintaining a clean, organised and welcoming venue
We're Looking For Someone Who
- Has strong barista experience and genuinely enjoys making coffee
- Can confidently open and close a hospitality venue
- Works well independently and takes initiative
- Has previous bar or hospitality experience
- Holds (or is willing to obtain) a current RSA
- Is reliable, organised and calm under pressure
- Loves creating memorable customer experiences
- Has an interest in board games, tabletop games, pop culture or trivia (highly regarded!)
- Is looking for a long-term role rather than just another casual job
Bonus Points If You
- Have experience with specialty coffee
- Have supervised or managed shifts before
- Know your way around modern board games
- Have hosted events, trivia or community nights
- Enjoy teaching games and bringing people together
