Our Board plays an important role in ensuring Communify remains well governed, financially sustainable and positioned to continue delivering high-quality services and positive outcomes for the communities we serve.
The opportunity
To contribute to a Brisbane based organisation that is committed to providing innovative, high quality, client driven services and programs to vulnerable people within our local community.
Communify’s Board comprises up to eight (8) independent and voluntary Non-Executive Directors.
We are seeking two experienced professionals to join our Board.
One professional who could bring financial management expertise (including current or past CA or CPA professional standing or equivalent recognised accounting qualification) and serve as a member of the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee. They will be able to analyse financial performance, budgets, forecasts, cash flow and financial sustainability and have experience with financial reporting, internal controls and organisational risk.
Another professional who could bring skills that include:
- experience with Government-funded commissioning, contracts and output delivery
- community services and relevant sector knowledge and/or experience
- experience in sophisticated governance/assurance activities
- experience with risk management and compliance (managing/overseeing risk management and compliance frameworks).
As a director, you will contribute to the broader governance, strategy, culture and future direction of Communify bringing professional expertise, judgement and strategic perspective to the organisation. You will contribute across the full scope of matters , supporting decision making, effective governance and the long-term sustainability and impact of Communify.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- participate actively in governance processes, ensuring focus on Communify’s vision and mission and be committed to the values and culture of Communify
- have a strategic focus and be able to look beyond the current environment to identify new approaches to deliver value in the future
- meet a high standard of ethical conduct
- have sound professional judgement, independence of thought and the confidence to constructively challenge assumptions and ask difficult questions
- have a good working knowledge of corporate governance and/or risk management principles and practice, the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act 2012 (Cth)
- be an experienced collaborator and skilled at building connections to harness the collective strengths and resources of Communify and the Board
- participate in Board and director evaluations and in at least one board committee (and have the skills and interest to potentially lead a board committee or board projects)
- be willing to commit time to prepare and actively participate in Board and committee meetings and activities, including nine monthly Board meetings (mix of online and in-person), the annual general meeting (in-person) and quarterly committee meetings as required.
Experience within the not-for-profit, charity, community services or government-funded sectors would be advantageous.
Previous Board or Board Committee experience is desirable, although we welcome interest from senior professionals who can demonstrate the judgement, strategic perspective and governance capability required to contribute effectively as a Non-Executive Director.

You will be expected to prepare for and actively participate in Board and committee meetings, maintain an appropriate strategic and governance focus, and exercise independent judgement in the best interests of Communify.
