About the role
The Senior Project Officer (Events) reports to the Executive Lead – Quality, Culture and Engagement and will work collaboratively with Kalwun business units & teams to plan, coordinate, and deliver a diverse range of community, cultural, internal and organizational events that reflect the values and priorities of Kalwun. These include cultural celebrations, family fun days, community engagement activities, staff recognition and celebration events, and other key organizational initiatives. This is a 12 month full time, fixed term parental leave cover role.
What you'll be doing
- Managing the entire lifecycle of a Kalwun event, from initial concept and site design to set-up, pack-down, and debriefing
- Source venues, negotiating contracts, and collaborating with suppliers for catering, entertainment and equipment
- Managing merchandise & equipment requests
- Facilitate regular Kalwun events committee meetings, setting agendas and providing minutes
- Creating detailed event timelines, run sheets, site maps, and logistical plans for bump-in and bump-out
- Developing and managing event budgets, tracking expenses and ensuring events remain financially viable and cost-neutral
- Exploring funding opportunities, establishing relationships with local businesses, and tracking sponsor inclusions
- Collaborating with Kalwun Marketing and Communications team to ensure relevant content for promoting events
- Fostering strategic partnerships with local businesses and community groups to boost attendance and engagement
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across internal business units as well as external event partners and suppliers
About You
You’re someone who:
- Builds strong, respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
- Brings five years experience in event coordination
- Is passionate about making a positive impact and supporting others with heart and purpose
Selection criteria
- Diploma in Event Management (or similar)
- A high level of organisational and project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple events concurrently
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems collaboratively and creatively.
- A high level of skill in using the Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Asana for task management and tracking
Requirements
- A Blue Card for working with children ('No Card No Start' policy applies)
- National police check
- Current drivers' license.
- IDENTIFIED POSITION - To perform this role it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. A Confirmation of Aboriginality will need to be provided.
