POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced Senior Commissioning Engineer to lead testing, commissioning, and maintenance activities for electrical substations, power generation facilities, and renewable energy projects. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise in primary and secondary systems, protection relays, and electrical safety while ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Testing and Commissioning
- Program, configure, and test protection relays.
- Conduct commissioning activities for substations, power stations, generating plants, and solar farms.
- Perform AC and DC system testing.
- Conduct IEC 61850 testing and validation.
- Test earth tails and grounding systems.
- Carry out integration, scheme, and functional testing.
- Rectify defects and non-conformances as directed.
Primary Plant Testing
Perform testing and commissioning of:
- Power Transformers and Station Transformers
- Switchgear
- Current Transformers (CTs)
- Voltage Transformers (VTs)
- Capacitive Voltage Transformers (CVTs)
- Harmonic Filters and Capacitor Banks
- Ring Main Units (RMUs)
- Busbars
- Disconnectors and Earth Switches
- Motors
- Solar Panels
- Power Supply Units and Inverters
Secondary Systems Testing
Perform testing and commissioning of:
- Protection Relays (SEL, Siemens, ABB, Hitachi Energy, GE, MiCOM and similar platforms)
- SCADA Systems
- Power Quality Meters
- Energy Meters
- Scheme Testing
- Integration Testing
High Voltage Operations
- Prepare, review, and verify switching programs.
- Perform High Voltage (HV) switching activities in accordance with safety procedures and network requirements.
Documentation and Reporting
- Complete and submit commissioning records, test reports, drawings, ITRs, ITPs, and related project documentation.
- Verify the accuracy and completeness of technical documentation.
- Ensure all project records are maintained in accordance with company and client requirements.
Equipment and Quality Assurance
- Verify calibration status of test equipment.
- Maintain equipment in a safe and operational condition.
- Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standards.
Team Support and Administration
- Mentor and support apprentices, trainees, and junior engineers.
- Accurately complete job cards, timesheets, delivery dockets, stock records, vehicle logs, and other required documentation.
- Participate in skills development and cross-functional activities as required.
- Perform other duties consistent with the role as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of testing and commissioning experience in the Australian and Pacific Island markets.
- Valid Australian Driver's License (Class C).
- Must have Construction White Card.
- Must currently reside and be legally eligible to work in Australia.
- Must be willing to travel as required
