We are looking for an upbeat, leadership-focused Deli Second in Charge (2IC) to help drive our team and manage department operations. In this role, you will step up and take full charge of the department whenever the Deli Manager is off, rostered away, or on leave. You will lead by example on the floor, support daily operations, and ensure our community always experiences the high standards, premium meats, cheeses, and olives they love.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the Floor: Guide and support the team during shifts, step in as acting manager when required, and ensure excellent customer service.
- Prep & Serve: Maintain a hands-on approach by slicing premium meats and cheeses,
- Stock & Order Management: Monitor inventory, enforce strict rotation (FIFO method), manage waste, and assist with ordering stock.
- Merchandising Excellence: Oversee display cases to ensure they are fully stocked, beautifully arranged, and accurately priced.
- Enforce Food Safety: Monitor compliance with health, sanitisation, and temperature regulations to maintain a food-safe environment.
- Train Team Members: Assist in training new staff on equipment usage (commercial slicers), customer service, and food safety.
What You’ll Bring
- Leadership Drive: Natural ability to motivate a team, delegate tasks, and solve problems under pressure.
- Physical Stamina: Comfort standing for long shifts and handling heavy stock or supplies.
- Strong Communication: Clear, confident interpersonal skills to interact with customers and lead our team.
- Operational Skills: Strong understanding of portion control, weighing accuracy, and basic retail arithmetic.
- Flexibility: Happy to work a minimum 3-day weekly roster must be able to work on every Thursday, one Saturday or Sunday each week.
Bonus Points
- Previous experience as a Deli 2IC, Supervisor, or Senior Team Member.
- Active Food Handler’s Certification or Food Safety Supervisor qualification.
- Strong expertise operating and cleaning commercial kitchen equipment (meat slicers).
