Wulaign Homelands Council is seeking a qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Lajamanu, a remote Aboriginal community located 560 km south‑west of Katherine. This is a hands‑on, full‑time role responsible for maintaining and repairing essential community vehicles, civil machinery and plant equipment.
You'll work independently in a well‑equipped workshop, supporting community operations, civil works and essential services.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, service and repair heavy diesel engines
- Maintain and repair civil machinery (graders, loaders, skid steers, excavators)
- Service light vehicles, generators, trailers and small engines
- Complete preventative maintenance schedules
- Maintain accurate service and compliance records
- Respond to urgent breakdowns when required
- Ensure safe work practices and WHS compliance
- Able to problem solve
About You
Essential:
- Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent trade qualification) or Minimum 5+ years of heavy diesel mechanic experience and a recognised trade certificate are required for this position.
- Demonstrated experience with heavy diesel engines and hydraulic systems
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Current driver’s licence.
- Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to pass a police check
Desirable:
- HR or HC licence
- Experience with CAT, John Deere or similar machinery
- Welding/fabrication skills
- Previous remote or regional work experience
