Architectural Technician — Job Description
Summary
- Produce technical drawings, details, and documentation to support architects and construction teams through design development, construction documentation, and site phases.
Key responsibilities
- Produce accurate CAD/BIM drawings (plans, sections, elevations, details) from sketches, models, and site measurements.
- Develop and maintain Revit/AutoCAD/BIM models, families, and drawing standards.
- Prepare construction documentation, detailing materials, assemblies, finishes, and specifications.
- Coordinate technical information with architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors to resolve clashes and ensure buildability.
- Generate schedules, take-offs, and quantity estimates to support cost planning.
- Perform site surveys, measured drawings, and as-built documentation; record site observations and produce site reports.
- Produce technical details for building envelope, partitions, fenestration, and MEP interfaces; ensure compliance with codes and manufacturer instructions.
- Assist with permit submissions, planning drawings, and compliance documentation.
- Maintain drawing issue control, versioning, and document transmittals; respond to RFIs and produce revision clouds/markups.
- Support production of presentation drawings, layout plans, and material boards as required.
- Implement and follow CAD/BIM standards, templates, and QA/QC checks; perform model audits and clash detection.
- Liaise with suppliers and fabricators to obtain technical details and shop drawings; review shop drawings for conformance.
- Keep up to date with construction techniques, materials, and detailing best practices.
Qualifications & skills
- Diploma/degree in Architectural Technology, Architectural Engineering, or equivalent vocational qualification.
- Typically 2–6 years’ experience in an architectural practice, contractor, or consultancy (adjustable by seniority).
- Proficiency with Revit (BIM), AutoCAD, and common design software (SketchUp, Rhino, Navisworks).
- Strong technical drawing and detailing skills; understanding of construction methods and materials.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and standards applicable locally.
- Competence with dimensioning, layer management, annotation, and drawing production workflows.
- Experience with clash detection, coordination workflows, and model management.
- Good communication, time-management, and teamwork skills.
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving aptitude.
- Site experience and ability to perform measured surveys advantageous.
- Certifications (e.g., Autodesk Certified Professional) or membership in professional bodies desirable.
Performance metrics
- Accuracy and timeliness of issued drawings and revisions.
- Number of coordination clashes caught pre-construction.
- Quality of details and reduction in site queries/RFIs.
- Adherence to CAD/BIM standards and deliverable consistency.
- Responsiveness to RFCs and turnaround time for shop-drawing reviews.
Pay: $5,870.49 – $6,667.99 per month
