We are seeking a Financial Accountant to join our Finance team and play a key role in ensuring the integrity, compliance and accuracy of the City's financial and asset management functions.
Reporting to the Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial and asset records, supporting financial reporting requirements and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and legislative obligations.
A key focus of the role will be managing and improving the City's asset accounting processes, ensuring asset registers remain accurate, compliant and aligned with best practice.
Location: City of Melville Civic Centre
Salary: Level 8/9 $116,018.80 to $135,038.39 pro-rata p.a. + 12% Super
Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time
What You’ll Be Doing
- Managing the City's asset accounting function including asset additions, disposals, transfers, depreciation and reconciliations
- Maintaining accurate asset records and supporting asset valuation processes
- Assisting with the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and statutory reporting requirements
- Supporting month-end and year-end financial processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting
- Assisting with the development, review, and continuous improvement of financial and asset management policies, procedures, and systems
- Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, legislative requirements, taxation obligations, and corporate governance frameworks
- Liaising with internal stakeholders, auditors, and external service providers on financial and asset-related matters
- Supporting financial audits and providing advice on financial accounting and asset management matters
What We’re Looking For
- A current National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain
- CPA or CA qualification or be actively working towards membership
- Experience in financial accounting, with exposure to asset accounting and financial reporting
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, reconciliations and statutory reporting requirements
- Demonstrated experience improving financial processes, systems and controls
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across the organisation
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
- Local Government and/or knowledge of Technology One are highly desirable
