Primary purpose:
The Specialist Project Technician / Operations Specialist will assist in the planning, preparation and maintenance of reactors on Oil and Gas client sites. The Specialist shall prepare the required procedures and work instructions to undertake the tasks and operate the necessary equipment to prepare reactors for maintenance (run down) as well as undertake / oversee the catalyst (media) changeouts. Reactors shall be placed back into service in line with startup procedures.
Key responsibilities:
Monitor performance and ensure a safe rundown and start up (leak free) of catalyst reactors. This role requires personnel to hold a strong knowledge of Oil and Gas refineries and work with client Operations and Maintenance teams for the safe preparation of catalyst reactors along with the changeout of the catalyst media.
The post holder will require to undertake the following duties:
Reactor Services / Catalyst Media Changeouts
The individual will be capable of:
- Ensuring facilities are maintained, through carrying out maintenance plans and scheduled work programs, updating maintenance systems, and as required, assisting in the development and review of preventative maintenance plans
- Providing operations/maintenance expertise and assistance to compliance inspections and plant shutdowns/turnarounds to ensure these activities are completed on time and within budget
- Managing the day-to-day operation of the PTW and Isolations for the Onshore Facilities as described in the permit to work procedure
- Reviewing and preparing purging, flooding and chemical cleaning reactors as described in work instructions
- Entry and assistance with entry into toxic or inert atmospheres using the check and double check procedures.
- Setting up and running a vacuum unit (including N2 return loop)
- A screening operation (under both normal and inert atmospheres)
- Undertaking catalyst loading operations
- Maintaining and understanding an inert atmosphere inside a reactor
- Setting up and monitor a life support unit for entrants into reactors
- Testing atmospheres with all forms of atmospheric testing monitoring equipment operated by Contract Resources
- Carrying out daily maintenance routines and identify any problems arising by way of check sheet
- Undertake sampling of catalyst to ensure it is operating within operational guidelines. Analyse samples and record sample information.
Vacuum and Pumping Operations
The individual will be capable of:
- Carry out daily maintenance routines and identify any problems arising by way of check sheet/rig reports
- Operating the vacuum pump and auxiliary motor
- Tie in equipment to power generation systems
- Discharge product and clean interceptors and filters
- Run a constant discharge panel and valves
- Setting up and running a vacuum pump on hydrocarbon product. Checking equipment for malfunctions and arranging maintenance
- Selecting the correct hoses and fittings
- Understanding and installing all anti-static/earthing straps and cables
- Identifying any environmental hazards or consequences arising from the activities being carried out and establish control measures.
- Patrolling and inspecting equipment to ensure proper operation and setting operating controls on equipment
- Controlling records of production, quantities transferred and details of blending and pumping operations.
Mechanical
- Understand mechanical isolations required for cleaning activities
- Strong understanding of technical drawings particularly P&IDs
- Design and physically isolate equipment in line with procedures
- Able to install blind and recommission flanges without leaks
Site HSE Management
- Ensure that CR and Client required HSE management requirements are implemented and maintained to a high standard
- Co-ordinate / assist with the development and implementation of CR JSEA's for work activities
- Co-ordinate the development and implementation of pre-start meetings and ToolBox Talks
- Conduct / participate in site audits and inspections of work activities to ensure HSE compliance. Where required, participate in audits and inspections conducted by other parties
- Review Plant and equipment for compliance per the requirements of the relevant Procedure
- Identify and report to the Site Manager and HSE Lead, any high-risk issues that have the potential to impact on HSE compliance
- Identify HSE non-conformances and implement corrective actions in consultation with the CR site management team. Provide feedback to site personnel
- As directed, co-ordinate incident investigations per CR procedure. Where required / requested support Client led incident investigations
- As required, establish an agreed consultation forum, chair consultation meetings and prepare meeting minutes, delegate action items, distribute meeting minutes to relevant parties
- Assist supervisory personnel with HSE planning, co-ordination and execution
- Maintain required HSE documentation per CR or client requirements (e.g. induction, licenses, mobile equipment
