POSITION OVERVIEW
The Function Chef leads kitchen operations relating to private functions and events across Peter Rabbit Café and McGregors while also providing leadership and operational support during regular café services. The role is responsible for coordinating function food service, supervising the function kitchen team, supporting ordering and stock control, liaising closely with the Head Chef and Functions & Events Manager, and ensuring the successful delivery of both function and café services.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the Head Chef and Functions & Events Manager in the planning and coordination of all function and event kitchen operations across Peter Rabbit Café and McGregors.
- Lead all kitchen operations relating to private functions and events.
- Coordinate all food preparation, production and service requirements for functions and events.
- Assist with ordering, stock control and inventory management to ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained across both function and café services.
- Supervise, train and mentor chefs, apprentices and kitchen assistants involved in function preparation, event service and café operations.
- Coordinate and direct food preparation across all function, event and café services.
- Allocate daily tasks and ensure preparation lists are completed efficiently across all function kitchen team members.
- Lead kitchen operations during function and event services.
- Assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the function kitchen, including supervising staff, coordinating service and maintaining operational standards.
- Coordinate and supervise kitchen staff during functions and events to ensure service standards, preparation timelines and operational requirements are achieved.
- Coordinate workflow between the kitchen, front-of-house and event teams to ensure the successful execution of all events.
- Monitor food quality, presentation, consistency and portion control across all services.
- Contribute to menu planning, recipe implementation and the development of seasonal and function-specific menu offerings.
- Liaise with suppliers and assist with stock ordering for function operations.
- Monitor food costs and minimise wastage across all function services.
- Support the implementation and ongoing development of kitchen systems and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation throughout the kitchen.
- Provide leadership during service and contribute to a positive team culture.
- Support café kitchen operations when required.
- Uphold and implement Peter Rabbit's policies, procedures and core values.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent).
- Previous experience in high-volume commercial kitchen.
- Previous experience leading kitchen operations during functions & events.
- Experience with stock control, ordering and inventory management.
- Experience coordinating multiple food service periods, functions or events.
