The Role
As the Head of Department – HPE, you will be a key member of the school's leadership team, working closely with the Principal and Executive team to drive excellence in teaching, learning, and student engagement.
You will provide strategic and instructional leadership across the HPE learning area, supporting and developing staff to deliver high-quality teaching and learning programs that maximise student achievement. Through coaching, collaboration, and professional learning, you will foster a culture of high expectations, continuous improvement, and collective success.
The successful applicant will lead curriculum planning and implementation, ensuring programs remain engaging, contemporary, and responsive to student needs. You will play an important role in staff development, performance growth, and the sharing of effective practice across the department.
As a leader within the school, you will contribute to whole-school improvement initiatives, strategic planning, and decision-making processes. You will also champion opportunities that promote student participation, wellbeing, achievement, and engagement through a broad range of curricular and extracurricular experiences.

Teachers and school administrators employed at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School in 2025 are eligible to receive a temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $4 000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The temporary ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.

Eligibility
To work with us, you must:
- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- hold registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia
- obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.
