Training Ship Australia (TS Australia) is a unit of the Australian Navy Cadets (ANC), a nationally recognised youth development program supported by the Royal Australian Navy.
Based in Western Sydney, TS Australia is one of the largest and most diverse units in the organisation. We provide young people aged 13–18 with opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork, confidence and practical life skills through maritime activities, adventure-based learning and structured leadership development.
We are currently seeking additional adult volunteers to support the delivery of our youth program. Volunteers assist in areas such as:
- mentoring and supervising cadets
- administration and coordination
- training support
- logistics and activities
- wellbeing and youth engagement
No military experience is required. We welcome volunteers from all professional and personal backgrounds who are interested in supporting young people and contributing to their local community.
The ANC offers flexible volunteering pathways depending on your availability and level of commitment. Some volunteers serve as Officers or Instructors of Cadets, taking on ongoing leadership and program delivery responsibilities, while others contribute as Defence Approved Helpers (DAH) in more flexible support roles for activities, administration and unit operations. This allows volunteers to contribute in a way that suits their experience, lifestyle and availability.
TS Australia has strong representation from culturally and linguistically diverse communities and high female participation. We are committed to maintaining a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for all cadets and staff.
