About the Role & The Opportunity
National Group is seeking an experienced, dedicated Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor to support safety, environmental governance, and training functions at the Sino Iron Mine in Western Australia. This is a key site-based advisory role responsible for supporting a proactive safety culture, ensuring environmental compliance, and coordinating workforce training and competency across large-scale Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) and topsoil earthworks operations.
As the HSE Advisor, you will provide practical guidance across all aspects of health, safety, environmental management, and operator training. You will work closely with construction, production, and maintenance teams to ensure legislative compliance, operator competency, and continuous improvement across all work fronts. The project operates a large mining-class earthmoving fleet including Hitachi EX5600 & EX3600 excavators, Komatsu 830E haul trucks, and CAT D11 dozers, supported by graders and ancillary equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Culture & Site Engagement: Promote and support a strong safety-first culture across all site activities by engaging directly with operational and maintenance personnel.
- WHS & Environmental Compliance: Advise on and ensure compliance with WA WHS legislation, site safety standards, and environmental obligations, including dust control, rehabilitation, and compliance reporting.
- Audits & Risk Assurance: Conduct routine site audits, workplace inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations, assisting with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- HSE Systems Support: Assist in maintaining and executing HSE management systems, procedures, risk registers, and reporting requirements.
- Training, VOCs & Operator Assessment: Deliver and coordinate Verification of Competency (VOC) assessments and training for mobile plant operators, maintaining accurate training records and workforce compliance.
- Operational Collaboration: Work collaboratively with operational and maintenance teams to improve safety performance, asset pre-start assurance, and overall workplace standards.
What You Will Bring
- Industry Experience: Proven experience in an HSE advisory or specialist role within mining, civil engineering, or large-scale earthworks operations.
- Essential Training Qualifications: Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE40116 or equivalent) with practical experience training and assessing operators on heavy mobile plant equipment.
- Formal WHS Qualifications: Diploma of Work Health & Safety (BSB51319) or Certificate IV in WHS.
- Legislative Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, site safety regulations, and environmental management requirements.
- Desirable Background: Experience on Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) projects or large bulk earthworks operations, as well as qualifications in Environmental Management or Sustainability, are highly advantageous.
- Communication & Engagement: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence positive safety behaviours and collaborate effectively across site teams.
