Callcott & Downey Engineering is a leading Western Australian engineering company specialising in hydraulic cylinder repair, manufacture, precision machining and hard chrome plating. Operating from our modern workshop in Kewdale, we provide high-quality engineering solutions to the mining, transport, industrial and agricultural sectors.
Due to continued business growth, we are seeking an experienced First Class Welder to join our skilled workshop team on a full-time basis.
About the Role
The successful applicant will perform precision welding, fabrication and repair of hydraulic cylinders and associated engineering components while ensuring compliance with Australian Standards, workplace safety requirements and quality assurance procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform MIG, TIG, FCAW (Flux Core) and Stick welding on steel and alloy materials.
- Fabricate, repair and rebuild hydraulic cylinder barrels, rods and engineering components.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols and technical specifications.
- Set up and prepare materials for welding operations.
- Inspect welds to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Perform Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) and other quality testing where required.
- Operate overhead cranes and workshop lifting equipment safely.
- Maintain welding equipment and workshop tools.
- Follow Safe Work Procedures and WHS requirements.
- Work collaboratively with machinists and other engineering tradespersons.
- Complete job documentation and quality records.
Skills & Experience
Applicants should possess:
- Trade qualification as a First Class Welder or equivalent.
- Minimum two years' relevant post-qualification experience.
- Strong experience with MIG, TIG and Flux Core welding.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
- Experience working in heavy engineering or hydraulic repair workshops.
- Knowledge of Australian welding standards (AS/NZS 1554 preferred).
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Current driver's licence preferred.
- Forklift and Overhead Crane licences are advantageous.
