About the Company
We are AUCyber and 5G Networks, two ASX-listed businesses building managed cybersecurity, cloud and enterprise networking for clients right across Australia. We are at the start of something genuinely exciting: a fleet of AI-powered tools and agentic systems that are reshaping how we deliver, automate and scale. But this is not a role for someone chasing the hype. We want a software engineer who knows their craft deeply, who has built real things the hard way, and who now uses AI as a sharp tool to do even more.
The role
You will work alongside our Head of Software & AI across both customer-facing products and internal tooling, from agentic workflows and automation engines to the systems that thousands of decisions flow through. You will ship real things, see them used quickly, and have a direct line to the people setting the direction.
A normal week might include:
-
Designing and building features across our customer and internal platforms
-
Integrating large language models and APIs into practical, production-grade tools
-
Building and deploying containerised services with Docker and Kubernetes
-
Writing well-tested, maintainable code and helping uphold solid engineering practices
-
Working within an Agile (Scrum) team, planning and shipping in regular cycles
-
Collaborating with product, cloud and cybersecurity teams to turn ideas into working software
-
Bringing your own ideas to the table and seeing them tried
What you bring
-
Strong experience building and shipping production software
-
A genuine grasp of software engineering fundamentals: sound architecture and design, knowing when and how to apply patterns, writing code that is testable and easy for others to change, and the judgement to pick the right approach rather than the fashionable one
-
Confidence across a modern language. Go (Golang) or Node.js experience is preferred but not required
-
Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes
-
Solid SQL skills and experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL
-
Comfort with APIs, cloud platforms and version control
-
Skilled, day-to-day use of AI coding tools (we use Claude Code) with the experience and judgement to know when the output is good and when it has gone astray
-
Strong testing discipline and an eye for quality
-
A builder's mindset: you like solving problems, getting things live and improving the place around you
Bonus points for experience with LLM integration, agent frameworks, DevOps tooling (such as Terraform, Packer, Grafana, Loki, Prometheus or Temporal), identity providers like Keycloak, cloud platforms (GCP, Azure or AWS), awareness of compliance frameworks (IRAP, ISM, ISO 27001), or anything you have built just because you wanted to.
What is on offer
-
Real ownership of exciting, leading-edge work across the business
-
A hybrid setup and a team that values getting things done over box-ticking
-
A strong contributor will have a clear path to extension as the AI side of the business grows
-
Supportive, down-to-earth people who like what they do
Eligibility and other details
-
This role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance. You must be an Australian citizen to be eligible
-
Participation in an on-call rotation may be required from time to time
If you want to spend your days building the future rather than reading about it, we would love to hear from you. Apply now and tell us what you are excited to build.
One last thing
In your application, include a short paragraph telling us how AI has changed the way you work. There is no right answer and we are not looking for buzzwords, we just want to hear how you actually use it day to day and what it has changed for you.
Additional Notes
Australian citizenship so that the candidate is eligible to obtain a security clearance
