About the Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated and driven Assistant Project Manager to support the successful delivery of complex projects within ASC's SSN AUKUS Build Program. Working closely with the Build Readiness Project Manager, you will play a key role across the full lifecycle. supporting the preparation of the first of the class SSN-AUKUS build program including mobilisation of the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Construction Yard.
This role offers the opportunity to manage smaller projects or elements of major programs, including submarine maintenance and capability upgrades, within a highly collaborative and safety-focused environment. This is a full-time opportunity based in South Australia.
Responsibilities
- Support the planning, execution, and delivery of projects within cost, schedule, and quality constraints
- Develop and maintain project schedules, baselines, and performance metrics
- Monitor project progress, analyse variances, and implement corrective actions
- Work closely with the Program Risk Manager conduct risk and opportunity assessments and manage mitigation strategies
- Coordinate cross-functional teams including Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, Finance, and PMO
- Prepare and deliver some of the project reports, reviews, and stakeholder updates
- Document management and process creation
- Build readiness workstreams and support readiness reviews
- Contribute to financial management, including Control Account Management responsibilities
- Supervise and support Project Coordinators and Administrators
- Foster strong stakeholder relationships and a high-performance project culture
About you
- You may be a Project Coordinator looking to take the next step in your career or an Assistant Project Manager in the early stages of their career looking for a change
- Strong knowledge of scheduling (and scheduling systems), Microsoft Project, earned value management, and financial/project controls
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated stakeholder and team management capability
- Ability to work autonomously while driving outcomes
- Understanding of ITAR requirements
- Strong coordination skills
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to build relationships across diverse teams
- Analytical thinking and sound judgement
- High attention to detail with a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
- Customer-focused approach and commitment to delivery excellence
Desirable
- Formal project management qualifications (Diploma or higher)
- Membership with AIPM or equivalent professional body
- Previous experience with risk management software tools
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
