Google is proud to boast a network that provides service to millions of Internet users around the world. The Network Engineering team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You also ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components and responding to network connectivity issues. Google's complex network generates a constant stream of challenges which require you to continually be innovative with an evolving set of technologies. Keeping the network reliable ensures that our users stay connected with our suite of applications, products and services.
In this role, you will plan and design the world's largest Google's production global network. You will be involved in a series of dynamic large scale capacity augments, migrations, and new technology introductions globally to transition to Alphanet. You will execute and build upon our goal of an incredible optical, edge, core and campus network infrastructure for Alphanet to support continuous growing customer and ML demand. You will ensure that the network is efficiently built on-time while meeting our reliability and policy requirements. You will develop network planning and design best practices, processes and tooling. You will promote, create and contribute to automation tooling/scripts into network planning and design. You will drive the software automation roadmap to improve the quality and reduce the cycle time for network planning and design.Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.
- Review Google's network architecture standards and design global infrastructure that meets capacity requirements and SLOs while optimizing the CapEx/OpEx balance.
- Incorporate newly New Product Introduction (NPI)’d solutions into plans and designs, ensure planning and design toolsets and business processes are ready for NPIs.
- Evolve the business processes throughout their lifecycle (e.g., input gathering, generation, validation, publication, handoff).
- Support establishing and maintaining business practices and policies in network planning and design (e.g., architectural/topology, hardware lifecycle, capacity/utilization target), improve performance, reliability, and reduce risk.
- Create and promote automation tooling/scripts into network planning and design, contribute to the automation roadmap of all automatable tasks performed by the team, substantially reducing cycle time and improving quality and consistency.
