The Senior Scientist role will contribute to the delivery of a state-wide forensic biology service, in line with the policies, guidelines and strategies of Forensic Science Queensland. Contribute to FSQ's vision of becoming a world-class leader in the delivery of quality, timely and innovative forensic services, that ultimately supports the integrity of the Queensland justice system.
The Senior Scientist role provides a high-level of knowledge, skills and experience to apply independent scientific judgement in the analysis of specimens and samples. These roles are based in the Analytical and Reference processing teams in the Laboratory Management Branch.
Your key responsibilities
Adhere to defined service quality standards, health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Use knowledge, skills and experience to provide professional analytical services in relation to forensic DNA analysis commensurate with level of analytical experience.
Undertake forensic DNA testing and related duties using well established accredited protocols, standards and instrumentation within a multi-speciality team in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards, with limited supervision and increasing professional accountability commensurate with level of analytical experience.
Actively participate in the activities of the multi-speciality team, including participating in the introduction of new technologies or processes in the work area.
Develop scientific knowledge and expertise through active learning within the team, engaging in professional development activities and collaboration and mentoring with junior staff.
Work cooperatively and communicate effectively within the Forensic DNA Analysis team and with clients and stakeholders, both internal and external to the laboratory. Provide test results and advice on matters pertaining to complex technical matters for less senior staff members, clients and key stakeholders.
Participate in the process of quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification that enhance the delivery of Forensic DNA Analysis services provided to clients and key stakeholders.
Contribute to a positive organisational culture and creation of a safe and innovative environment for staff through team meetings, participation in training and development, performance appraisals and other measures.
Ensure work is compliant with all relevant legislative, administrative, and professional standards to meet NATA/ISO accreditation/certification requirements to provide quality scientific practice.
Participate in the regular review and improvement in forensic biology/DNA professional work policies, practices and procedures in accordance with NATA accreditation, international standards of best practice and legislative requirements.
Collaborate with other Senior Scientist and Team Leaders to ensure the operations of the Forensic Biology Unit are operationally integrated with those of FSQ to achieve its service delivery goals and to lead the development of service improvement initiatives to ensure the provision of quality scientific services to clients and stakeholders.

Apply scientific knowledge within the discipline of forensic biology to solve complex scientific problems.
