Wombat Cafe is seeking an experienced and motivated Chef to join our kitchen team in Dromana. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing, and cooking a variety of high-quality meals while maintaining food safety and quality standards in a busy environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan menus and estimate food and labour costs in consultation with management.
- Prepare, season, and cook a variety of dishes in accordance with recipes and quality standards.
- Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation, cooking, and presentation.
- Inspect food supplies and ingredients to ensure quality and freshness.
- Order and maintain stock levels of food supplies and kitchen consumables.
- Demonstrate cooking techniques and advise kitchen staff on food preparation and cooking procedures.
- Assist in the development of menus, daily specials, seasonal specials, and new dishes.
- Coordinate food preparation and service activities to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
- Explain and enforce food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety regulations.
- Monitor portion control, minimise food wastage, and maintain cost-effective kitchen operations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen equipment, workstations, and storage areas.
- Select, train, and supervise kitchen staff where required.
- Work collaboratively with front-of-house staff to address dietary requirements and special orders.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant qualification equivalent to Diploma of Hospitality Management.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience as a Chef in a fast paced commercial kitchen.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, food safety, and kitchen operations.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Have a passion for great food and presentation.
