Racing Victoria Group (RVG) is one of Australia’s leading sporting organisations and the independent governing body of thoroughbred racing in Victoria. We develop, promote and manage the conduct of the racing of thoroughbred horses in Victoria to safeguard its integrity.
We seek a hands-on and technically capable Platform & Security Engineer to support the delivery, operation and continual improvement of our technology platforms, cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, observability, automation and developer enablement tooling.
Reporting to the Head of Platforms & Cyber Security, this role plays an important part in building reliable, scalable and secure technology environments across RVG. The role integrates security into platform engineering and software delivery through secure-by-default standards, Infrastructure as Code, monitoring and DevSecOps controls.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on engineering work, while also helping improve security, reliability, automation and delivery efficiency across cloud and platform environments.
About the role
As the Platform & Security Engineer, you will work closely with Platform Services, Engineering and Delivery teams, Product Owners and RVG stakeholders to support platform operations, secure delivery and continual technology improvement.
You will be responsible for managing and improving RVG’s technology platforms, including cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, observability and developer tooling. You will also help embed security into software delivery workflows, support vulnerability remediation and contribute to secure adoption of approved AI and developer productivity tools.
In this role, you will:
- Manage, operate and continually improve RVG’s technology platforms, including cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, observability and developer tooling.
- Implement secure-by-default platform standards across AWS, with supporting coverage across Azure, Microsoft 365, container and deployment services where applicable.
- Maintain system uptime and security posture through audit logging, alerting, monitoring and reporting.
- Integrate security controls into software delivery workflows, including secrets protection, vulnerability and dependency scanning, Infrastructure as Code checks and approved deployment gates.
- Use Infrastructure as Code principles to automate, standardise and streamline deployment and environment management processes.
- Lead and support remediation of security findings across cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, containers, dependencies and platform services.
- Work with engineering and platform teams to prioritise, track and close security findings within agreed timeframes.
- Build automation to improve platform and security operations, including log enrichment, alert summarisation, remediation workflows and operational reporting.
- Support the secure adoption and configuration of approved AI services and AI-assisted engineering tools.
- Contribute to business continuity and disaster recovery infrastructure planning, build and testing activities.
About you
You will bring experience in a similar hands-on engineering role, with strong capability across cloud infrastructure management, platform engineering and DevSecOps practices.
You will also have experience managing cloud infrastructure, primarily AWS, with working knowledge of Azure and Microsoft 365 platform services where applicable. You will be comfortable working across CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, secure configuration, monitoring, automation and vulnerability remediation.
You will ideally have:
- Experience in cloud infrastructure management, platform engineering and DevSecOps practices.
- Proficiency managing cloud infrastructure, primarily AWS, with working knowledge of Azure and Microsoft 365 platform services.
- Experience creating, maintaining and improving CI/CD pipelines using tools such as JIRA, Jenkins, Bitbucket or other widely used deployment platforms.
- Demonstrated experience remediating security findings across cloud, application, infrastructure, container or CI/CD environments.
- The ability to work with engineering and development teams to translate security findings into practical technical fixes and track remediation actions through to closure.
- A strong understanding of cyber security concepts and best practice, particularly as they apply to cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines and developer workflows.
- Experience implementing and enforcing security policies and standards across AWS, with working knowledge of Azure and Microsoft 365 security controls.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and associated tools, including code scanning, dependency scanning, secrets scanning and Infrastructure as Code validation.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across platform, engineering, cyber security and delivery teams.
Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker, and an understanding of AI security will be highly regarded.
Some after-hours or weekend support may be required from time to time for critical platform or security activities.
If there are areas that you are unable to ‘tick’ in the above, we would still like to hear from you. As part of your cover letter, please outline how you might address some of the gaps.
