Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the General Manager of Operations will provide executive leadership across Mining, Civil Construction, Facilities Management, and Integrated Services operations throughout the Pilbara region. This role is responsible for operational performance, profitability, business growth, client satisfaction, and strategic direction across all divisions.
Key Responsibilities:
Given the organisation's approximately equal split between Mining Services and Integrated Services in both revenue and workforce, the successful candidate must demonstrate strong capability and commitment to leading, managing, and growing both operational streams.
Mining & Civil Construction
- Lead and oversee all Mining and Civil Construction operations across the Pilbara region.
- Ensure safe, efficient, and profitable delivery of mining civil projects.
- Manage project execution, mobilisation, fleet utilisation, workforce planning, and resource allocation.
- Oversee project budgets, forecasting, cost control, and financial performance.
- Drive operational excellence, productivity improvements, and project delivery outcomes.
- Support tendering activities, contract management, and business development opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Integrated Services & Facilities Management
- Lead and manage Integrated Services operations, including Facilities Management and support service contracts.
- Ensure high-quality service delivery and client satisfaction across all service agreements.
- Drive operational efficiency, workforce performance, and contract profitability.
- Identify opportunities for service diversification, innovation, and business growth.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and service delivery partners.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, service standards, and governance requirements.
Commercial & Business Leadership
- Develop and implement business strategies that support sustainable growth and diversification.
- Manage P&L performance, financial forecasting, cash flow, and profitability across all business units.
- Monitor operational and commercial performance metrics and implement corrective actions where required.
- Lead tendering, contract negotiations, and commercial management activities.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within Mining, Civil Construction, and Integrated Services sectors.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, Traditional Owners, Indigenous communities, and Tier-1 partners.
- Provide leadership and support to Operations Managers, Project Managers, Commercial Teams, and HSE personnel.
- Develop high-performing teams through coaching, succession planning, and leadership development.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Ensure strong governance, risk management, and compliance practices across all operations.
Skills and Experiences:
Required Qualification:
- Minimum 15+ years' senior leadership experience within Mining, Civil Construction, Integrated Services, or related sectors.
- Proven success managing both large-scale mining civil projects and integrated services operations.
- Experience in General Management, Operations Management, Commercial Management, or Business Development leadership roles.
- FIFO operational leadership experience within remote mining and construction environments.
- Strong commercial acumen with demonstrated success managing P&L performance and operational profitability.
- Experience leading large corporations, contractors, or successful SMEs.
- Strong financial management, strategic planning, and Board reporting capability.
- Proven ability to drive business growth and operational transformation initiatives.
- Demonstrated success developing high-performing teams.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills across clients, executive leadership teams, Traditional Owners, and Indigenous communities.
- Sound understanding of Fair Work obligations, workforce management, and employment compliance.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
