We are seeking a Full-Time Chef/Cook to join our team at Into Laksa Sydney Pty Ltd (Trading as Into Laksa Mascot), located in the heart of Mascot. We offer an excellent working environment and a comprehensive package for the right candidate.
Position Details:
- Permanent full-time chef/cook
- 38 hours per week
- $80,000-$90,000 per year + superannuation (Depends on candidate's qualifications)
- Convenient location with good access to public transportation
THE ROLE - Cook
We are seeking an experienced Malaysian Cuisine cook to join our Mascot team. You will lead the workstation, prepare sauces and pastes, and work closely with the chef to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
KEY SKILLS
- Have sound food safety handling knowledge and can always guarantee good food hygiene.
- Efficient in food preparation, including cutting ingredients/seasoning/portioning/plating, etc.
- Able to cook menu items using various cooking methods, especially strong wok skills.
- Have the knowledge to understand customers’ specific dietary requirements.
- Resolve issues related to food orders or customer complaints;
- Ensure all equipment is kept clean and in excellent working condition through personal inspection and by following the restaurant’s preventative maintenance programs;
- Responsible for training new kitchen staff and providing orientation to new staff;
- Work in compliance with Food Safety Standards and HACCP;
- Team player, can work with other staff to ensure consistent and high-quality food service;
REQUIREMENTS
- Familiar with cooking processes of Malaysian food and have at least 1 year of relevant working experience (prefer to have experience with Malaysian/ Singaporean/Indonesian restaurants).
- Have a positive team spirit and delegate tasks to other kitchen staff respectfully, which helps maintain a friendly and cooperative working environment.
- Food Supervisor Certificate and Certificate III in Commercial Cookery required
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Multilingual preferred: Fluent in English, Mandarin, and Malay
THE ROLE - Chef
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Malaysian Cuisine Chef to lead our kitchen operations and deliver exceptional culinary standards. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of traditional and contemporary Malaysian dishes, and the ability to manage a fast-paced kitchen while maintaining consistency, quality, and authenticity.
This is a leadership role that involves menu planning, team supervision, cost control, and upholding the highest standards of food safety and hygiene. We are seeking a candidate with more than 1 year of relevant experience who is both hands-on and strategic – a chef who is deeply passionate about Malaysian cuisine and motivated to lead and inspire a high-performing kitchen team.
KEY SKILLS
- Lead day-to-day kitchen operations, ensuring smooth service in a high-volume environment
- Oversee and participate in the preparation of authentic Malaysian dishes, including key street food items (e.g., Char Kway Teow, Mee Goreng, Laksa)
- Develop and innovate menu items while maintaining traditional culinary roots
- Train, supervise, and motivate kitchen staff to maintain high performance and efficiency
- Monitor food presentation, portion sizes, and quality standards
- Manage inventory, ordering, and supplier relationships
- Maintain strict compliance with food safety, hygiene, and occupational health standards
- Monitor food and labour costs to ensure kitchen profitability
- Work closely with management on seasonal menu updates and operational improvements
REQUIREMENTS
- At least 1 year of relevant experience
- Expertise in Malaysian cuisine and cooking techniques
- Proven ability to lead, manage, and inspire a kitchen team
- Excellent knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety, and quality control
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Food Supervisor Certificate and Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery required
- Multilingual preferred: Fluent in English, Mandarin, and Malay
