About us:
The Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS) Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs (MHAOD) Service is leading the way in innovative perinatal mental health care. As pioneers of an Australian-first model, we are proud to deliver the Perinatal Acute Mental Health Hospital in the Home (PAMH-HITH) program, providing women and birthing people experiencing severe and acute perinatal mental illness with specialist, hospital-level care close to home.
This service is designed to operate as a virtual inpatient bed admission model, where consumers receive hospital-equivalent care in their home environment rather than within a traditional inpatient unit or Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) as a proposed interim model designed to meet the care needs of the community until a time when a physical MBU can be established in the Cairns and Hinterland region.

About your role:
Serve as a positive role model, connecting with consumers, their carers and staff to provide a positive example of recovery and act as a source of information by drawing on personal experiences of mental health issues, substance use and recovery.
Utilise effective communication, interpersonal and consultation skills to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams promoting the function of the peer role and advocate for the consumer perspective.
Hold an understanding of available community support services and assist consumers with navigation and linkages to relevant services.
Work with multidisciplinary teams and complement existing services to assist consumers on their recovery journey.
