About the role:
The Principal HR Business Partner role works within Human Resources Advisory Services. The Human Resources (HR) Advisory Service is a dedicated direct-to-client advisory service for general and operational HR advice and support. HR Advisory Services provide access to quality HR advice easily as well as adequate support to the business areas of the department.
As a Principal HR Business Partner, you will lead and guide a HR Business Partnering team in building constructive relationships with business leadership teams and internal clients. You will aim to develop a highly engaged and productive workforce through effective people management. You will also be responsible for leading collaboration between client portfolios and the HR team to deliver expert advice, identify organisational capability requirements, and enhance service delivery to achieve business outcomes.
Your key responsibilities include:
Lead and manage a team of HR professionals to deliver best practice HR solutions and provide quality advice that is aligned with the Queensland Government employment framework and legislation.
Conduct, oversee and coach members of the team to undertake end-to-end case management of complex HR matters, ranging from performance, conduct and grievance resolution. In addition, provide written and verbal advice to senior delegates to support ethical and transparent decision making, in accordance with the Queensland Government employment framework.
Develop and maintain a collaborative strategic relationship with client portfolio leaders and their teams by developing a deep understanding of their business and through the provision of contemporary human resources and consultancy services to ensure delivery of best practice people strategies and solutions and the achievement of business objectives.
Lead and operate as a strategic partner to deliver technical and strategic human resources advice and recommendations across a broad range of areas such as workforce planning, performance management, complex issue resolution and HR programs and policy.
Collaborate with subject matter experts within the HR Branch to identify, develop, deliver HR programs to build the competence and capacity of leaders to effectively manage and lead their teams.

As an experienced leader, you foster a high-performance culture within HR teams, driving continuous improvement, efficiency and excellence in service delivery. Your exceptional communication, consultation and negotiation skills allow you to partner effectively with diverse stakeholders and influence senior leaders in the implementation of HR strategies, systems and organisational frameworks across large, geographically dispersed environments. You demonstrate outstanding written communication, including the ability to prepare complex advice, reports and presentations, supported by strong analytical and legislative interpretation skills. Operating with integrity, resilience and accountability, you confidently manage competing priorities and consistently deliver high-quality, timely outcomes in a dynamic business partnering context.
