We are seeking a qualified and experienced Trials Agronomist (38 hours a week) to join our team at CWFS in Condobolin. This role involves planning, establishing and managing farming systems trials, collecting and analysing scientific data, developing new research projects, preparing technical reports and extension material, and working closely with growers and research partners to improve the productivity and sustainability of agricultural systems.
Key Responsibilities:
· Plan, establish and manage farming systems trials across Central West NSW, including making agronomic decisions relating to sowing, crop protection, fertiliser strategies, irrigation and harvest operations.
· Collect, manage and analyse data and samples including soils, crops, biomass, grain and other factors affecting agricultural production and farm profitability.
· Develop trial methodologies and research protocols and contribute to the establishment of new agricultural research projects.
· Evaluate the effects of farming practices, soil fertility, seasonal conditions, pests, weeds and diseases on crop and pasture production.
· Provide technical advice and research findings to growers and industry stakeholders to support evidence-based decision making and improved farming systems.
· Prepare scientific reports, extension material, newsletters and presentations based on trial outcomes and research data.
· Liaise with growers, universities, government agencies and industry partners to ensure best practice management of research projects and field activities.
· Coordinate trial operations and supervise technical assistants, contractors and casual staff involved in project delivery.
· Develop and implement innovative farming practices and research activities aimed at improving productivity, sustainability and resilience in low rainfall farming systems.
· Assist with the delivery of field days, workshops and extension activities to communicate research outcomes to the agricultural industry.
Skills and Experience Required:
· At least three years of relevant experience in agricultural research, agronomy, farming systems or a related field, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and professional experience.
· Qualification equivalent to an Australian bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Agricultural Science, Agronomy or a closely related field.
· Demonstrated experience in the planning and management of agricultural field trials, data collection and analysis, scientific reporting and project coordination
· Proven ability to interpret agronomic data and provide evidence-based recommendations to support agricultural production and sustainable farming systems.
· Experience working collaboratively with growers, researchers, government agencies and industry stakeholders.
· Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and work independently.
