Role Description
DocTel is seeking experienced General Practitioners with an interest in medicinal cannabis to join our growing telehealth team.
As a Medical Cannabis Prescriber, you will conduct remote consultations, assess patient suitability for medicinal cannabis treatment, develop personalised treatment plans, and provide ongoing follow-up care where clinically appropriate. You will work within a fully digital platform that streamlines bookings, clinical documentation, prescribing, and patient communication, allowing you to focus on delivering exceptional clinical care.
This is a fully remote contractor position offering flexible working hours and the ability to consult from anywhere in Australia.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive telehealth consultations with patients seeking medicinal cannabis treatment.
- Assess clinical eligibility in accordance with current Australian clinical guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Develop individualised treatment plans based on clinical assessment and patient goals.
- Prescribe medicinal cannabis where clinically appropriate.
- Monitor treatment effectiveness, adverse effects, and ongoing patient outcomes through follow-up consultations.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation using DocTel’s electronic medical record system.
- Educate patients about treatment options, expected outcomes, risks, adverse effects, and safe use of medicinal cannabis.
- Work collaboratively with the broader clinical team to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, privacy, clinical governance, and regulatory compliance.
Essential Qualifications
- Current unrestricted registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
- Fellowship with RACGP or ACRRM, or eligibility for independent general practice in Australia.
- Current authority or eligibility to prescribe medicinal cannabis in Australia.
- Strong understanding of evidence-based medicine and patient-centred care.
- Excellent clinical assessment, communication, and documentation skills.
- Confidence using telehealth platforms and electronic medical records.
- Commitment to ethical practice, continuous learning, and high-quality virtual healthcare.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience prescribing medicinal cannabis.
- Experience managing chronic pain, anxiety, insomnia, PTSD, palliative care, or other conditions where medicinal cannabis may be clinically appropriate.
- Experience providing telehealth consultations.
- Familiarity with Australian medicinal cannabis regulations, prescribing pathways, and clinical guidelines.
Interest in digital health innovation and virtual models of care.
