About the role We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team in Perth, WA on a full-time basis. This is a strategic financial management position that plays a crucial role in supporting the financial health and operational effectiveness of the Australian Nursing Federation – IUWP. Reporting to senior management, you will be responsible for overseeing key accounting functions, providing financial insights, and ensuring robust financial governance across the organisation. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the financial direction and sustainability of a prominent professional body.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance
- Prepare and present accurate financial statements, management accounts, and reports to support decision-making by senior leadership
- Conduct financial analysis and variance reporting to identify trends, opportunities for cost control, and areas for improvement
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax legislation, and regulatory requirements applicable to not-for-profit organisations
- Manage budgeting and forecasting processes, working collaboratively with departmental managers to develop and monitor financial plans
- Oversee payroll coordination and ensure accuracy of employee records and superannuation contributions
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls and financial policies to safeguard organisational assets
- Provide financial guidance and support to other team members, offering mentoring where appropriate
- Liaise with external auditors and tax advisors to facilitate audits and tax compliance activities
- Identify and implement process improvements and opportunities for increased operational efficiency
What we’re looking for
- A recognised accounting qualification (CA, CPA or equivalent professional accounting designation)
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an accounting or finance role, with demonstrated progression to a senior level
- Substantial experience in financial reporting, management accounting, and financial analysis within a complex organisational environment
- Knowledge of accounting software systems and proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other business applications
- A thorough understanding of financial compliance, audit requirements, and best practice financial governance
- Experience working with not-for-profit organisations, professional bodies, or membership-based organisations (preferred)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- A meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in financial work
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning
